“I’m Going To Love As Long As I Live” is the newest album from Australian singer-songwriter Thomas Calder, AKA “Daggy Man”.
An immersive collection of 13 carefully crafted songs that plunge the listener into the curious mind of their creator, I’m Going To Love As Long As I Live explores themes of construction, identity and change.
“These songs were written during a period of recovery and rebuilding for me personally” says Calder “a crucial part of an emotional journey that’s still ongoing. The album is about this rebuilding. It’s about fractured identities, it questions the idea of personality and what it means to be a person in the world. The songs lay bare the confusion and madness I felt during my struggles to reconnect with life and to rediscover and redefine who I was, am, and want to be.”
From its opening moments the album immediately grabs the listener, inviting them closer, preparing them for the journey to come. Full of vitality and passion, there’s an underlying confidence and assurance that excites and propels the album forward. The songs are playful, thoughtful; they ask questions but don’t always answer them. They melodically dance from one narrative perspective to another and gracefully move between the dark and the light, reminding us that the music, much like life, is in a state of constant change.
The strong narrative thread that connects these songs is ultimately about hope: The message is that we should confront and embrace change. Our lives are constantly changing so we need to develop an ability to dance between life’s constant uncertainties with humility and grace. It might just provide the key to our lasting emotional happiness.
Having written five full albums in six years, it’s now clearer than ever that Thomas Calder is an artist with something to say. “I’m Going To Love As Long As I Live” showcases a songwriter at the height of his creativity and craft who’s unshaken in his belief in the power of music. Here we have an artist willing to bare-all to deliver a cathartic, meaningful and powerful album.
